The miss instantly became the defining moment of the final. The moment when Morocco gave up a certain victory. Clips of the penalty spread rapidly across social media, followed by an intense wave of reaction.

Popularity and Sentiment

Fans and football journalists alike were quick to react, and not all empathetically. While some praised Díaz for the confidence to attempt such a high-risk finish on the biggest stage, the dominant tone online was harsh. The miss triggered a flood of criticism and hateful comments, with many supporters questioning his decision-making in such a crucial moment.

This backlash explains the GVPR drop. However, it is important to point out that many supporters of Díaz came to encourage him online, consoling and praising the winger.
